Volunteer with us
Everything Tees Wheelyboats does is run by volunteers who give their time freely. We'd love to have you on board.
Make a real difference on the river
For many of our passengers, a trip on the Wheelyboat is an experience they'd never have had otherwise. You help make that happen.
Whether you're on the water as a trained Skipper, helping passengers on board, assisting with admin, or just spreading the word — every volunteer plays a part in keeping the boat running and the trips going.
It's rewarding, sociable, and — we think — a genuinely great way to spend some time.
Roles for all kinds of people
There's no single type of volunteer at Tees Wheelyboats. Here are some of the ways people get involved.
Boat Skipper
You'll receive full training to RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PBL2) licence standard. No previous boating experience is needed to start — we'll get you there. Skippers take charge of each trip.
Crew member
Crew support the Skipper and look after passengers during the trip — helping with boarding, the safety briefing, and making sure everyone has a comfortable experience.
Admin and coordination
Help us manage bookings, maintain records, communicate with passengers, and keep things organised behind the scenes. Great if you prefer to stay on dry land.
Spread the word
Know of organisations or individuals who might benefit from our trips? Or someone who might like to volunteer or donate? Simply sharing what we do makes a big difference.
We'll train you — no experience needed
You don't need any background in boating or disability support to get involved. We provide all the training our Skippers and crew need to operate the Wheelyboat safely, and we'll support you throughout.
Skippers train to the RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PBL2) licence. We're a welcoming, supportive group — if you have any concerns about getting involved, just give us a call and we'll talk it through.
Interested in getting involved?
Give us a call or drop us an email. We'll explain what's involved and answer any questions you have — no commitment needed at this stage.
